Exercises and Assignment
Week 1
The lecturer gave a brief introduction of this subject and what software are we going to use.
Exercise
For the tutorial, the lecturer divided into 3 groups and gave standard card pack told to make our own game. We got few minutes make it and came up with a game named 'Snap'.
Instructions:
This game has 5 players and giving cards to each player as well as keep 2 card packs on the table. both card packs have the same amount of cards plus jokers. all players have to pick 4 cards without looking at them. keep the 4 cards facing up on the table and turn up two cards from the card packs. players can only put above or below in sequence. Each player has to be fast putting cards onto the middle of the 2 card packs. have to say "Snap" if 2 cards are same in the middle. the player who forgot or late to say has to take all cards which are in the middle of the 2 packs. If joker turned up any player can put a random card that they have. For the win, has to finish all cards and loser is the player who has a lot of cards.
challenges- speed and pay attention to the middle cards. because you would lose your chance to put the card as well as to say snap.
strategy- every player has to pay attention and speed and try to win.
luck- we used joker as luck
there are two card packs on the table and when the joker came out from one pack any lucky player can put a random card
reward & punishment-If one player didn't say or late to say snap that player has to take all cards which are middle of 2 card packs.
to win, players have to finish all card that they have.
choice- the player has a choice to put below or top card (in card sequence A-K).
week 2
Exercise
the lecturer gave us 2 dice (with red and black sides), 52 standard card pack and dominoes to make our own game.
game name: black & red
How to play:
arrange the dominoes on the table (face down) and get 5 cards in each player. find a first player and play in clockwise or anticlockwise. The first player should roll the dice first and dice colour is showing what colour that you have to put. But if the player got both colours, that player can choose a colour between them.
After that, the player should take one domino. it is determined which number can use/ play( Ex: if the player got a domino with 2 and 3, then he or she can put either 2, 3 or 5(2+3)). other players also can put if they have same number and colour. the player should take 2 cards who rolled the dice doesn't have the same number and colour card match with dice and domino. Likewise, other players should do it. the domino should keep it on the end of the row and turn down. The player who finishes all card is the winner.
- Lacks challenge, too dependant on "luck".
- Can add more challenge (sabotage)
Lecture
The lecturer taught us how to draw concept arts. Firstly, start to draw in the silhouette so it can figure how the character looks like. after that add some lightings and shadows to show how the character looks like when the lights fall on to the character's body. Later add more details to give realistic to the character.
Tutorial
the lecture taught us the basic steps of unity software and codings.
Exercise
I practised drawing some character silhouette.

silhouette character design
Reflection
Experience
character silhouette drawing is quite hard challenge to me.
For the 1st assignment, we have to build up a game idea.
Progression
Here are few games that I played to take an idea for the final assignment.
Cat Bird
This game was hard to play to me from the beginning. However, I like the design.
Path through the forest
This game is a puzzle plus adventurous game quite same as 'Flora and the darkness game'. it is a nice and fun game.
Flora and the darkness
The concept of this game is to discover the amazing living world of her planet. Reach the end of the levels with the help of the special plants and with using the abilities of the ancient Gods.
Once upon a tower
I followed this game for my final assignment. This is about to survive a princess who stuck in a tower. I chose this because it is addictive and you should think how you complete the levels and complete challenges.
The game story
One day, the monsters attacked the Princess Jasmine’s castle when she was inside. Princess Jasmine needs the help to destroy monsters and survived the castle. The monsters are in different levels and it is quite hard to destroy them. So, the princess needs the player’s help.
Target Audience- teenage girls who like to play action and cute
The key elements that this game has:
1. objectives- the player has to play faster before the enemy hits to the princess.
2. challenges- kill enemies and collect points ( sometimes enemies cutting off the points)
3. strategy- the player has to play as well as think how you going to survive from the enemy
4. luck- There is a box in the middle of the game that is giving luck.
it may help you to win the levels or it doesn't help.
5. rewards & punishments- Collecting points when kills the enemy and there are some flyers to indicate points
6. choice- In each level begins giving 3 choices to select and it is helping to survive from the enemy or play faster.
So, my idea is similar to this game but I would like to add an end to it.

I decided to use vector drawing. I drew few more characters to take an idea of character design and I decided to choose 7 as the character. 9, 10, 11 as enemies and 4 as points.

Enemies
Slime enemy- These enemies don’t have shoot, but it is moving fast. The princess should survive without touching the slime enemy. The life would reduce if touched the body of the slime.
Boss Enemy- this enemy has a powerful weapon can shoot using that.
Items
Points/ coins- this is the points that the princess has to collect
Power ups/ Life bottle- This is the life bottle to gain the power stay in the game.

Feedback
The lecturer asked me to add the arrows in the prototype so it is easy to understand the directions of the game. And try to make the 1st prototype easier and after that make it harder.
The lecturer wanted to see the concept art and character assets.
Feedback
The background is too large compared with the character and change the colours to see the characters, objects and background.
Reflection
Experience
This module is so interesting than I thought. however, it would be difficult later. And I like a lot the concept art lesson. but sad to say that we don't have concept art as a subject.
Experience- Final assignment
This assignment was to challenge me a lot. Firstly, making a game is hard. However, making it in Unity is harder. Codings and finding errors are so hard. At the end of this assignment, I felt so disappointed with myself.
Observation
the beginning of this subject, we created our own card games. it was helped me to take ideas on how to create a game.
Observation- final assignment
I realized my time management is worse in this assignment compared with other modules of assignments. Moreover, I had a really bad feeling when I worked with it.
Finding
My finding was what kind of enemies should I add and add some more points, punishments.
Finding- final assignment
I think I should learn more of codings to make games.
